Our Exclusive Thermal Break 60 Installation System, High-End Materials and Elite Installers Guarantee a Flawless Outcome

To race through your window installation project as quickly as they can, these companies utilize what’s called a Caulk & Walk installation. It requires the absolute bare-minimum amount of work – basically, just enough so the window doesn’t fall out of the frame!
Here are the steps for Caulk & Walk window installation:
1. The installer removes your old window from the frame.
2. He slaps your new window into the frame.
3. He secures it with a few screws and cheap caulk.
4. Wash, rinse, and repeat for your remaining windows.

Caulk & Walk is the “lazy man’s” window installation – anyone who watches a 10-minute YouTube video could perform the same level of window installation. As a result, Caulk & Walk can (and 100% will) lead to HUGE issues like poor energy efficiency, leakage, and premature window replacement.
It’s no wonder Caulk & Walk window companies advertise $189 windows. It’s easy to quote a dirt-cheap price if you skip 90% of the proper window installation steps!
At Windows And Doors By The Men With Tools, this kind of corner cutting is a cardinal sin. That’s why we’re Staten Island & New Jersey’s only Worry-Free, Anti-Caulk & Walk window-installation company.
When you hire a window installer, you’re paying good money to improve your home. We consider your business an honor and a privilege. As such, we’ve taken EVERY possible action to guarantee you a flawless window installation.
Exclusive Thermal Break 60 Installation System
THE MEN WITH TOOLS
From start to finish, it takes exactly 60 steps – performed in rigidly strict order – to pull off a flawless window installation. How do we know? We created the blueprint!
Windows And Doors By The Men With Tools owner, John Kolbaska, has over 25 years of industry experience, with 18 of those years coming as a professional window installer. Tapping into his vast experience and knowledge, he distilled his exact step-by-step process into a comprehensive 60-point checklist that we utilize on each and every window we install.
We don’t simply remove your old window and stick a new one in the existing frame. We meticulously strip the entire window cavity bare, reconstruct where necessary, apply proper insulation and flashing, and utilize a precise replacement method that ensures the tightest and straightest fit.

We don’t simply remove your old window and stick a new one in the existing frame. We meticulously strip the entire window cavity bare, reconstruct where necessary, apply proper insulation and flashing, and utilize a precise replacement method that ensures the tightest and straightest fit.
Example: Most window companies let windows free float within the rough opening. This can create crooked installation and gaps. We, however, install wood shims in at least six separate points between the window and opening (Step 34). This makes make for a perfectly level, airtight window.
Here’s another example: Steps 44-48 involve our drip-cap installation process. A drip cap goes over the top piece of trim on a window to prevent moisture. A lot of window companies consider drip caps optional – but not Windows And Doors By The Men With Tools. We install them on every single window to keep water away.
Other steps in our window installation process:
- Complete removal of existing frames and moldings (Step 22)
- Full inspection of opening for water and termite damage (Steps 26)
- Secure screws every 4” to 6” (Step 33)
- Insert spray foam insulation in the space between the window and framing cavity 1-1/2′′ deep (Step 35)
- Fill all nail holes in molding and extension jambs (Step 39)
- Install flashing tape over flange on the side jambs and header (Step 42)
As you can see, we mean it when we say we follow an EXACT step-by-step installation process on every window. It’s how we GUARANTEE the tightest, straightest, and longest-lasting fit.
We Have Deep Pockets for the “Little” Details
The small details make a HUGE difference in the overall quality of your window installation. That’s why we pay two to four times more for the “little things,” such as higher-quality screws and caulk.
Here’s a comparison of what we pay versus what other window companies pay (based on industry averages) for three“small” yet vital materials…
- Cost: $6.97 per 1lb box
What We Use: Stainless Steel Screws
- Cost: $16.84 per 1lb box
- Price Difference: 2.4x more
Why We Pay More: Drywall screws are meant for interior usage and rust when exposed to water. Using them to install windows is a recipe for a loose fit and leaks – we’ve even seen windows fall out of the frame due to flimsy and rusty drywall screws! Stainless steel screws, however, are heavy duty, never rust, and FIRMLY secure your windows in place – for life.
What They Use: Off-the-shelf spray foam, fiberglass insulation, or NOTHING at all
- Cost: $3.98 per can
- $1.00 (fiberglass insulation)
- Cost: $0.00 (no insulation)
What We Use: OSI QUAD® Foam
- Cost: $11.98 per can
- Price Difference: 3x more
Why We Pay More: Cheap spray foam typically has low insulating properties, can absorb moisture, and may break down over time. Fiberglass insulation stuffed into the cracks is even less effective, and it also absorbs water like a sponge. OSI QUAD Foam has an incredible R-Value and is a closed-cell material that does not absorb moisture. It’s also extremely flexible and will not crack or dry out.
What They Use: Cheap sealant meant for home interiors
- Cost: $2.58 per tube
What We Use: OSI QUAD® Max Window Sealant
- Cost: $9.28 per tube
- Price Difference: 3.5x more
Why We Pay More: A dirty industry secret is that some window companies use cheap bathroom silicone during window installation. This can cause many problems, since bathroom silicone is not meant for exterior use. OSI QUAD Max Window Sealant is made specifically to handle the harsh outdoor elements windows are exposed to, so it’s all we use.
At Windows And Doors By The Men With Tools, no detail gets left behind. We consider everything. And we do it because when you sweat the “small stuff,” it leads to BIG results.
We Pay Our Window Installers Top Dollar, Too
Companies that Caulk & Walk typically hire out inexperienced subcontractors and pay them a dirt-cheap wage per window installed. That only adds to the corner cutting, since the subcontractor must install as many windows as fast as possible just to put food on his family’s table.
That’s just not fair – to you or the window installer.
At Windows And Doors By The Men With Tools, we employ top talent and pay them their worth. Each of our lead window mechanics has over 10 years of installation experience (our most experienced lead has almost 30 years!). They’re passionate about the craft, and they are absolutely meticulous in their work.
Our wages are 33-50% higher than the industry average. We also provide excellent benefits and payout big bonuses to those who go above and beyond. In short, we ensure our installers are well-compensated, so they can take the time to perform your installation perfectly.
A True DOUBLE Lifetime Warranty
We stand behind our work. It’s that simple.
This is why your window installation comes with a lifetime guarantee on labor, materials, and homeowner mishaps. No matter what the problem is – and no matter when it occurs – you can trust that we will take care of everything for you… always at a cost of $0.00.
Because when you choose Windows And Doors By The Men With Tools, you aren’t just a one-off customer… you’re a lifelong member of our Windows And Doors By The Men With Tools family. As such, we ensure you’re taken care of for LIFE.
Bottom Line: We Do Window Installation RIGHT
Here’s the truth: The best windows in the world – even Andersen, Pella, and our own line of ThermaLast Windows – will perform terribly if they’re installed using Caulk & Walk tactics.
With our Exclusive Thermal Break 60 Installation System, higher-quality “small” materials, and exceptional installers, Windows And Doors By The Men With Tools is Staten Island & New Jersey’s Worry-Free, Anti-Caulk & Walk window-installation company. Sure, that might not make us the cheapest. And it might not make us the fastest, either. But it absolutely makes us the company that can perform your replacement window installation 100% RIGHT the first time.
